Biography

All truly worthwhile adventures begin with a crazy dream. Elizabeth’s journey is no different.

Since childhood, Elizabeth Chan has dreamed of penning the next great Christmas song, a song that would earn a lasting place with the classic Christmas songs played on the radio each holiday season.

Growing up in New York City, Elizabeth joined millions of other dream seekers, trying to make it in a city that specializes in harsh realities.

While real life settled in, the holidays remained a special respite for Elizabeth, a time of magic, the scent of Christmas trees, and great music.

Music and the craft of songwriting grew to be a huge part of Elizabeth’s identity. When she was 15 years old, Elizabeth joined a musical group being developed by C+C Music Factory. After six years and a pair of shelved albums, Elizabeth was released from her record deal.

A month later, on September 11, 2001, the world changed. “I grew up with my family in the shadows of the Twin Towers,” Elizabeth relates, “and for most of that fateful day, I thought my parents had died in the attack. Fortunately, they had not, but suddenly my dream of a music career seemed frivolous.”

Elizabeth continued to enjoy music as an amateur performer, even winning Showtime at the Apollo, but the first act of her music career was over.

Elizabeth became a successful media executive, helping Fortune 100 companies navigate the waters of new media. With each success, however, Elizabeth felt a growing void. The corner office and six-figure salary couldn’t replenish her creative well run dry.

Then one night, after a particularly rough day, Elizabeth went online to search for a new job. Instead, she discovered a casting call for a documentary series by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me).
Failure Club offered Elizabeth the opportunity to chase her dream of Christmas songwriting while facing the prospect of failure around every corner.
Six months later, Elizabeth was fully immersed in her Christmas craft. With over 200 Christmas songs already written, she decided to leave her corporate job to begin the second act of her music career.

As Failure Club came to a close, Elizabeth released her first EP, Naughty & Nice in 2012. The EP debuted at #4 on the iTunes Holiday charts, and maintained a Top 50 Holiday ranking through the season. The first single, “A Christmas Song” played on satellite and terrestrial radio stations, and the music video was shot in Times Square.
Having inspired thousands of others to pursue their dreams, Elizabeth has fully embraced her goal of adding to the Christmas canon. “For once in my life,” she says, “I’m in exactly the right place at the right time. Writing Christmas music (and pursuing my dream) has helped me learn to be a better me.”
Elizabeth’s album, Everyday Holidays, released in Fall 2013.
