Can Skylark (Candice Malander-Thorne) is a pleasantly easy going, free spirited female solo artist, with a strong willed passion for performance. With over 14 years in the performing arts and music industry, gracing many of the biggest stages across South Africa including: Artscape, Grandwest casino, The CTICC, The BMW Pavilion, Joseph Stone Auditorium, The V&A Waterfront, 3Arts, The Barnyard Theatres (Nationwide), The Labia and more, Can Skylark’s ability to capture and entertain the crowd, is a talent few artists possess.
Through her musical journey, Can Skylark has worked with the likes of Vicky Sampson, Leslie Kleinsmith, Mike Horne, Lee Gold, Ultra Records’ Jimmy Nevis, Stereotype Records’ Keeno Lee, Gary Naidoo, Gorm Helfjord and Jon-e, amongst many others.
Her experience, precision and profound talent in singing, writing, producing and ability to adapt, has seen Can Skylark perform at local festivals and coveted stage productions and the release of her debut album, entitled ‘Pure’.
With catchy lyrics and melodic tunes, Can Skylark’s signature style on the album evokes a classic musicality, with heartfelt soul, true jazz instruments and an easy listening experience. The singles off the album “Everything is Cool”, “Nothing’s gonna get me down today” and “No Fear to Fall (Butterfly)”, have been receiving both local and international acclaim on the airwaves for the profound talent associated to this inspiring artist. “Everything is cool” has taken acclaim as the first track off the album to take the number one spot on the Heart 104.9fm’s SA TOP TEN chart!
