First of all - the book was my favourite out of the 5 so far - I was very keen to see David Thewlis and Gary Oldman as Lupin and Sirius, and Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. I had read some reviews on the internet before seeing the film but decided to see the film with an open mind, but did want to re-read the book again - not so easy with a 5month old baby - I didn't quite finish it - so the ending was a vague memory for me.

I thought the look of Hogwarts was fantastic - Glen Coe and Loch Shiel are as dramatic and spectacular in real life - Loch Shiel is possibly one of the most beautiful lochs in Scotland (if any of you get the chance to climb to the top of the Glenfinnan Monument and take in it's splendour you'll know what I mean - if you have already then lucky you). I liked the little courtyard better than the immaculate cloisters of the previous films - I felt it suited the rugged castle better. The path to Hagrid's hut, the forest, etc, all suited the location of Hogwarts in the Scottish Highlands - a bit wilder.
For me tho, the best part of Harry Potter has always been the class of the actors involved - fantastic of J K Rowling to insist on an all British cast.

I enjoyed the performances of all the actors - I think the three leads have improved as they've gotten older. Emma Thomson was fab - tho for some reason I imagined her doing it with a Scottish accent - cos that's how I 'heard' the character in my head while reading the book. Robbie Coltrane was, as ever, just the best as Hagrid. Julie Walters, Robert Hardy, Mark Williams and Maggie Smith never disappoint and I couldn't imagine a better actor than Alan Rickman for Snape. I wasn't sure about Michael Gambon at first - I had thought more along the lines of Patrick Stewart for Dumbledore after Richard Harris passed away, or even Sean Connery, but then I thought that would be too weird - fancying Sean Connery the way I do I could never look at Dumbledore in the same way again! I was in no way disappointed by Michael Gambon tho - a fine actor and an excellent Dumbledore. Lenny Henry and Dawn French were fantastic - does anyone know why Elizabeth Spriggs isn't the Fat Lady anymore? - not complaining cos Dawn French is great. I did miss Oliver Wood, but again that's cos I fancy the actor (I know he's a bit young for me - but Sean Connery's a bit on the old side - a girl can dream can't she?).

David Thewlis - I had originally pictured Christopher Ecclestone as Lupin - I haven't seen too many films with David Thewlis and at first the only one that sprung to mind was Dragonheart, but of course his character in that was about as far removed from Lupin as possible, so could never compare. His portrayal of one of my favourite adult characters was perfect.

Gary Oldman - not a lot to say about him that hasn't already been said time and time again - what a fantastic character actor he really is - as soon as he was announced as Sirius I knew he was the man for the job!

The ending was very enjoyable, especially as I hadn't got that far in the book again, and I found myself watching it gripping my hubbie's hand cos I was really getting into the excitement of it all - I know I'm a big bairn at heart - I cry at Disney films for goodness sake!

Ok so there are things from the book that are missing, or slightly out of order ... chill ... I'll say it cos I don't care if I get blasted out of the water ... IT'S A BAIRN'S FILM!!!! Watch it with the mind and eyes of a bairn - and let the magic take you away from your usual life - it worked for me - I forgot about dirty nappies, sleepless nights and never ending washing and ironing.

Take Care All

I absolutley LOVED the Harry Potter movie...I totally agree with you Kate.
Did all of you like the book better or the movie? I actually enjoyed the book more. They had to cut out a lot of things to make the movie fit into the 2 hour or so time limit. How do you think they are going to fit the 5th book into a movie? :)
