Analysis
Twas the week before Christmas chart…An eccentric chart this week in many respects. Delta mainly saturates the chart though 2 of her 13 songs have dropped out this week. She stays in the top 2 singles with Extraordinary Day and Electric Storm, and has a third week at the top of the album chart with Mistaken Identity. Elsewhere however as four singles tumble out of the top 20, they are replaced by Dana Rayne and Kylie’s B-side B.P.M at the rear of the top 20. Much further up in the top 5, both Kylie’s ‘I believe in you’ & Mousse T’s ‘Right About Now’ return to the heights of the chart after dropping out last week. In the album chart Kylie is pushed off her 2nd place by Sarah McLachlan with a live version of one of the best albums of the year, which has spent 7 weeks at No.1 earlier this year. Though she can’t beat Delta, she matches the peak of No.2 of her other live album Mirrorball. Elsewhere in the album chart, very little change as the furthest slump is two places. Amazingly Corrs climb back up, and Natasha and Clubland regain their positions. Next week it is the sixth Christmas chart, last years No.1 going to Delta Goodrem with Happy Xmas (War is over). The obvious bet for xmas No.1 would be Extraordinary Day, but some of the other songs in the top 5 have a chance. The real underdog however is Slinky Minx, a female dance trio singing Summer Rain. The song has been climbing steadily for a month and if the trend continues it could find itself in next weeks xmas top 3 or even No.1!!!
