Coldplay Live 2003 in at #84, after 10 weeks on the chart. Last week it was #76. It's highest position to date is #13! A Rush of blood to the head is down 3 to #30 afer 72 weeks on the chart (highest position #5)

Sting is a non-mover at #70 with Sacred Love. The highest position of this album was #3.

The Beatles, Let It Be... Naked stays at #56 this week. Highest position #5

Rod Stewart - It Had To Be You ... The Great American Songbook is climbing up 12 places again to #46, highest position #4. As time goes by sticks at #21

Dido - Life for rent sticks at #26 after 15 weeks. (Highest chart position #4) (White flag climbs to its highest position (#18) in the singles chart)

Get this, The Darkness climbed 66 places from #167 to #92 last week. And this week they're up a further 53 places to #39 and have been named the charts 'pacesetter' for the second week running. Can they climb up again next week?

I'm really pleased about the Darkness' success to date in the US, though at the same time surprised. I guess I didn't expect Americans to take in the Darkness' style of music and related humour. A lot of US rock is very similar (eg bands that sound like Green Day), so the Darkness are really offering something different. Excellent!!!

I won't have respect for the US charts, until the day when the Americans put a British act back at no. 1 in their charts - I guess that applies with the album charts too.

Back in the late 80s, and early 90s, many British acts dominated the US charts - then they went and added airplay to the blasted "so called" chart reflecting "the most popular hit of the week" when in some cases it clearly doesn't.

As for US albums, it's great to see The Darkness climbing up again to no. 39 - but can you honestly see it going to no. 1 in the US, 'cos although I'd love them to, I don't think they will. I mean, Dido, Coldplay, Sting, Rod Stewart...even The Beatles albums have failed to reach no. 1 so far.

Dido 'White Flag' is now at no. 18 - but in it's early weeks it drifted between 40 - 60 for almost two months. It's good the song is NOW going up, but again, do you honestly see it going top 10, yet alone no. 1? I know I'd love Dido to hit no. 1, after all Dido has had major hits in the US already (Here With Me, Thank You).

Until the day when a British act hits no. 1 in the US, I'll never give a toss if another US Rn'B artist hits no. 1 in the US singles chart through an "airplay bullett" rather than sales.

Hitstastic - I'd totally agree with you, and to be honest I don't pay much attention to the US singles chart anymore. Doubt Dido will get much higher with "White Flag" coz its bascially the 'wrong' type of music!! In the albums chart, I can't see the Darkness getting beyond the lower reaches of the top ten, but to have any success in the US these days is a major achievement so good luck to them.
