Jamie Foxx playing Ray Charles and Jazz and R&B in "Ray" is magnificent. Winning the Academy Award for best actor was the icing on the cake really.
If you've seen Ben Kingsley play "Gandhi" and Denzel Washington playing "Malcolm X", this is an act of similar proportions. Truly impressive and great promotion for jazz.
I just saw a clip of Ray Charles just encouraging Jamie Foxx before he died. Foxx says Ray Charles kind of "saw" the movie with him before it was released. They are shown in this clip interreacting on a piano. I was just taken by the magic of the moment. You can imagine what it felt like for Jamie Foxx himself.
