Figures are estimated to the nearest 5,000, which means that there will be more inaccuracies than rounding to the nearest 10,000.

Will Young’s Leave Right Now continues to build steady sales and is now in the top 5 with around 335,000. However, Michael Andrews ft. Gary Jules and Darkness should overtake him next week. This week the latter two sold over 450,000 between them whilst the top 3 sellers approached 595,000 sales - over 25,000 more than the average weekly sale this year for the whole singles market.

It was a very close battle for the top spot with Mad World outselling Christmas Time by 4,986 sales.

Firstly to Mickey, I read on Channel 4 teletext that 'Mad World' sold 236,000 last week with 'Christmas Time' selling 220,500. I guess Channel 4 got it wrong....AGAIN!!!
Last week Will Young had sold 265,000, so to climb to 335,000 this week mean he probably sold around 70,000 this week. If the sales figures are similar for this week then Will Young could sell over 400,000 by the end of the year putting him fourth place.
BUT, Michael Andrews & Gary Jules and The Darkness have done extremely well in terms of first week sales - if these are maintained, both these songs could sell over 400,000 too.
I think 50 Cent 'In Da Club' and Dido 'White Flag' won't be in the final UK Top 10 of 2003.

See ya later

White Flag sure needs to be in the top 10 of 2003 :(

Great to see such strong sales for the Xmas week. I'm not so sure Gary Jules will overtake Will Young before the end of 2003. Leave Right Now is still selling very well and could climb back into the top 5 this week.

Dido can take heart from having the #1 selling album of 2003 even if White Flag falls out the top 10 singles

To rmbob, you say "Dido can take heart from having the #1 selling album of 2003 even if White Flag falls out the top 10 singles". How do you know about her album being best seller of 2003??? If there's a website that lists the UK best selling albums of 2003 then I would be greatful for the web address.
Mind you, you'll probably reply back saying "No, I'm just guessing". Doh!!!

dido's album is the best seller of this year by about 500k copies i think! it's sold pretty much 2 million by now. and i can see gary jules approaching 400k by the 31st, the darkness just shy of tatu probably

There is only 4 days sales this week - there is no way that either song will top 100k surely? This is 2nd week of releases! Plus - they only really sold 200k plus because of:

1) Media hype for Christmas number 1
2) Media hype for The Darkness
3) Media hype for The Idols

It was sure to be the biggest chart of the year, its just Mad World was the Dark Horse - although I can't understand this 227500 - its on Now 56 already!

Mad World is on Now 56 but is a more unknown song on the album so people probabbly didn't realise.

I found information on the best selling albums on Dotmusic, but i've had another look in the hope of posting further information here, and can't find it now, lol!!

Dido will definitely be #1 album though, it sold 270,000 copies last week. Its great to see the album charts looking so healthy.
