The original song is oftentimes said to be "better" than the cover version.
And with this instalment, I cannot disagree. Please!
With "Mad World" you get an inferior version professing it's an Original, since the majority of listeners are unaware that there is a hugely superior version lurking backstage.
For those of you not aware; try the Tears For Fears version, and you wanna reclaim your pennies, should you have bought the what's-his-name's version!!!
There are - however - a few success stories. The few ones I can think of at the moment being;
"Always On My Mind" Pet Shop Boys - better than Elvis's crooner!
"Love Is All Around Me" Wet Wet Wet - better than Reg Presley's original!
To finally prove my point, the success of "I Will Always Love You" with Whitney Houston is a testament that quality is not always reflected by chart positions; take a listen to the writer's version - and equally one of my all-time favourites - Dolly Parton! No comparison, in terms of quality, says I!
