Michelle McManus wins Pop Idol 2003

So Michelle won Pop Idol, I think the best one won on the day and throughout the series. What are your views?

I just was surprised when Andy was voted out early, I really thought he would have went all the way. But in the end the favourite right from the start of the competition has won.

I DONT THINK ANY OF THIS YEARS POP IDOL CONTESTANTS WQILL MAKE IT BIG!-if i had 2 chooseid say sam or roxanne will have the biggest long term career!roxanne hadf an amazing voice and already has a contract with fuller! and with her only being 17 id expect to see a lot more of her in a few months time!
oh yeah-glad michelle beat mark in the final! she was briliant!

I think Sam should have won in the end now, looking back at it, he seems more of a Pop Idol than Michelle. I'm still glad that Michelle won.

Out of all of them Sam should have been the Pop Idol.
In the long run ,along with Roxanne, I think he'll come out the best.
Michelle will probably have acouple of hits and that's it.
But who knows ?
Who really cares ?

I really don't think Michelle deserved to win Pop Idol this year. I think the major factors in her winning were that she is a big girl, this made all other 'large' people sympathise with her and this along with having all of Scotland behind her resulted in her winning this year. I can't see her being much more than a flash in the pan, her voice is reedy and i personally don't think she has much vocal talent, she sings through her nose. The best competitors this year were Suzanne, Sam and Roxanne the others were nothing special.

Firstly to James121, I agree. I think alot of Michelle's (multiple) votes were out of sympathy, just like Gareth Gates votes each week. At least someone talented won the first series of Pop Idol. This series was well inconsistant to the point that I gave up and started backing Mark to win because out of the "final two", Mark was more likely to leave the competition in the early stage, with Michelle leaving about two weeks later. Final should have been Sam and Roxanne - wouldn't have cared who won - but in an ironic way, I didn't care who this series.
In fact, when Dec said "The winner of Pop Idol 2003 is......................MICHELLE", I just sat there thinking "Well, Simon Cowell's got his way again" - no wonder Pete Waterman stromed off set. Mind you, would Neil Fox have done the same if Mark won. As judges, they should respect the public and who they vote for.

Secondly to DSQ, I didn't think Chris was the worst. For me, he sang a couple of songs really well (eg - The Long And Winding Road), but did sing some songs really bad (eg - Ain't Nobody). I think when you look back, all of the finalists gave at least one good, but one bad performance - no wonder voting was so inconsistant - because the finalists themselves were. For me, I never liked Marc D, he SO fancied himself.
