As a christmas poll my question is do you think Xmas Number 1 is as important as people say?

I think it is - its the one number 1 of the year people look at most, its the historic number 1. Most acts say that its special enough getting a number 1, but the Christmas number 1 is on another level.

Yeah but how many people who have had the christmas number 1 in the past are still successful? Not many.. Its usually cheesy novelty acts and is a bit of a joke really! If i was a singer i'd rather have a number 1 some other time.

Like DSQ, I think (especially in the UK) because the Xmas no. 1 is much hyped about - at least you are more likely to have a bigger selling single than most singles released much earlier in the year. However, I would agree with Michael188 and say that the fact that the Xmas no. 1 is "much hyped about" is the exact reason why so many novelty songs are released around that time. Other countries don't think of a Xmas no. 1 as anything special, it just happens to be no. 1 that week. Like in America 2001 with Nickelback 'How You Remind Me'??? How very festive!!!

See ya later

The UK's not really had a festive number 1 since East 17's "Stay Another Day" in 1994 (Christmas bells in the song etc), though "Something Stupid" in 2001 did have a Christmas video so I suppose that could have been considered a festive song.
