Post-punk Legend Presents Entertaining Talk For Aspiring Musicians
Seattle, WA (Top40 Charts/ Brown Paper Tickets) A colorful, entertaining speaker, author, music industry entrepreneur and legendary post-punk drummer, best known for his work with Public Image Ltd., Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and more, Martin Atkins will present his candid, one-of-a-kind talk on how to build a career in the music industry, July 23 at Ballard's Tractor Tavern. A featured speaker at SXSW and music conferences around the world, this rare Seattle appearance is hosted by the Brown Paper Tickets Doer Program as part of the Not-Just-For-Profit ticketing company's mission to help independent musicians succeed. Admission includes the lecture, a free digital download of Atkins' book, "Welcome to the Music Business: You're F**ked!," and live performances from three of Seattle's top independent bands, The Bad Things, Gigantor (featuring Lynval Golding of UK ska legends The Specials) and Spiderface. Tickets are $10 at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/771008 or by calling Brown Paper Tickets' 24/7 event concierges at 1-800-838-3006.

Atkins will share everything that anyone in a band needs to know to succeed in the music business, honed from almost two decades of performing, touring and recording. Topics range from starting and naming a new band to recording, packaging, social media, local scenes, event management and more. Atkins is the author of "Tour:Smart." The prequel, "Band:Smart," is a new book that will be available in 2014.

Brown Paper Tickets' Doer Program offers free assistance and expertise to build healthy communities across the globe. Atkins will be introduced by Billy Geoghegan, the company's "Doer" specializing in the independent music industry. Geoghegan is a professional change-maker, "doing" what it takes to make a positive impact in that community. He draws from decades of experience as an artist, booking agent, tour manager and small-label owner to help artists, labels and venues with copyright, publishing, booking, etc., free of charge. Geoghegan's latest project, "Lunch Money," scheduled to launch in summer 2014, will empower teens to create their own music labels.
