New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ SGC Media) Producing his own music, videos and visual art from his back room at home, Allen has captured the imagination of people across the country, launching his second homemade video "Commerce" today.
This follows the addition of his first track "The Virus In" to
Double J last month along with a host of great reviews for the EP.
Broadwing was first brought to light with attention from triple j's "Home and Hosed" host, Dom Alessio, who said "An incredible talent from the middle of Australia... what's more impressive is that it's just one guy!"
Off the back of that attention, Allen was chosen from 900 entrants as the winner of the 2012 APRA Tropscore competition, and went on to perform his work in front of an audience of 90,000 at the internationally renowned short film festival Tropfest at Sydney's Domain. Allen was also invited to attend the triple j APRA Song Summit that year, to participate in a roundtable discussion featuring
Gotye and Adalita Srsen.
A taste of upcoming material "Anodyne" was dropped on triple j Unearthed in February resulting in music director Dave Ruby Howe stating: "Ben is an immense talent - you can hit play on a new one from him and expect inventive, engaging things."
Allen's songs feature an amalgamation of organic, live instrumentation and electronic software integration, all recorded in his home - live, however, Broadwing has showcased a range of performances from stripped back acoustic shows to more involved electronically aided performances.
Broadwing's debut EP Pinhole Camera is out now through MGM Distribution.
"Tinkering towards dense, momentous build-ups, Allen evokes a curious innocence with a touch of sadness. He proves a master of knowing when to drum up the heartfelt note and when to withdraw."- TheMusic.com.au
