Variety Reports On Billy Joel's Surge In Synchs
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ UMPG) Variety magazine recently reported on the remarkable popularity of Billy Joel's music for synch use, noting that 'over the last 18 months… Rondor has secured approximately 127 different uses in the U.S. alone for Joel's songs,' which have included placements in spots for The Gap ('Just The Way You Are,' s, Merrill Lynch's Bank of America ('My Life').

Though Joel hasn't traditionally licensed his music for synch, Variety writes that with his 2012 Rondor publishing deal came a newfound focus on placing his songs in advertisements, television shows and movies to 'help [him] reach new audiences.' The approach appears to be working: the article includes an interesting anecdote where Joel's classic hit 'Piano Man' was featured in an ad for the Netherlands' new rail system, which sparked such a resurgence of interest in the song that it ended up back on that country's charts nearly 30 years after it was first released.
