New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Independent Music Media) What would the stories and riddles of our dreams sound like if they were spelled out in song? At the intersection of poetry and lyrics, symphony and song, poet, singer-songwriter and guitarist Jeremy Bass has crafted a powerful and captivating sound that comes to life in his debut album Tenant to be released digitally on October 7th.
Collaborations with a diverse array of artists from Roseanne Cash to Stew inspired his densely textured and beautifully layered first solo album, Tenant. Recorded over the course of several years between engagements in poetry and musical direction at some of the premier institutions on the East and West Coasts (Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers' Conferences, New Dramatists in NYC and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles), Tenant draws on Jeremy's classical background, his love of traditional Americana music, and the soul and power-driven rock'n'roll.
"The album is a testament to collaboration," says Jeremy. "We'd record one track at MotherBrotherStudios in Connecticut, which at the time was just a tricked-out basement studio, then send it off to guys at studios in LA and Brooklyn who would add bass and keys and other backing instruments, then we'd flesh-out the tunes again with banjo, mandolin, electric guitars and vocals in Connecticut. Producer Matthew Vitti and I even had the strings and piano player come to a huge church upstate and track parts thereāit was cross-continental, and we hope the sound of the album reflects that scope and vision."
Originally a classical guitarist trained in the academies of Siena, Italy, and in the flamenco bars of Sevilla, Spain, as well as a widely published poet and critic, Jeremy first drew attention in both Los Angeles and New York as the dynamic bandleader and musical director of the OBIE awarded-winning, nationally touring variety show The Secret City.
Making a name for himself with a score of sold-out performances in his bi-coastal homes of New York City and Los Angeles, Jeremy has been praised for the stirring clarity and richness of his voice, his masterful skill at the guitar, and the seemingly effortless way he blends the two skills into performances of rare beauty and intimacy.
Expect to hear new of upcoming shows soon. Look for Tenant, available for pre-order on
