New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Sons On The Pyre is an Alternative Electronica (or Alternative EDM) project well-known for experimenting with various genres and immersing listeners into creative soundscapes. The sound often flows between Industrial Metal, Drum and Bass, Asian/Ethnic, Reggae, etc. For this and other reasons, some fans have started referring to Sons On The Pyre as "The Next Nine Inch Nails".
Despite the plural artist name, Sons On The Pyre is not a band; it's actually a project coined by singer, songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Cesar M. known as "The Serpent". Here's what he had to say about the comparison to Nine Inch Nails:
"I've definitely learned a lot from Trent Reznor as an artist & composer. But I aim to always keep the sound of Sons On The Pyre fresh - and my own." And "It's important to cherish and learn from those who influence you, without imitating them."
Not sure what to think? Give their latest album, "Biorhythm" a listen and decide for yourself. Indie Band Guru said it best: "This is progressive Music".
This isn't where the similarities end. Aside from the Industrial Metal & Electronic core vibes, it's the experimental approach that gets fans talking. Not many artists today are willing to experiment, or break away from the "rules" of music.
It's quite apparent that the current generation in control of the music industry doesn't have an artist or figure that is willing (or perhaps able) to just be him or herself. In fact, many young listeners are resorting to older (sometimes, much older) artists to meet their need for more substantial music. This is how I found Sons On The Pyre. I like the way Cesar M. puts it:
"The current music industry in the United States doesn't view its artists as people, nor is it designed to work with actual artists; it's designed to work with talents. So when an industry rep watches a person perform, he doesn't see the person. He sees the talent -a tool to make money. To make that money, the person behind the talent is re-designed to the image that the reps see fit. When the rep stops making money, that image is dropped, the talent is replaced, and the person slowly fades away."

Sons On The Pyre's online debut hit hard in 2012; the project has grown exponentially since then. You can expect more surprises in the coming year.
