New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Rick Elliot has returned with his latest new single, "Why" an autobiographical tale of reckless behavior, in true country grit fashion. As the third release in a series of singles that will be featured on his debut EP expected this summer, Elliot has confirmed a strong presence as an old-fashioned cowboy with his Bakersfield-style ballads. "Why" is his most personal and sincerest work to date, and is now available on iTunes.
The Bakersfield 50's honkytonk subgenre of country music is the roots to Rick Elliot's latest single, "Why" as he turns up the heat adding his own modern twist. The song elevates as Elliot's deep voice begins to tell a tale of falling into a low place and learning how to get right back up. Elliot's crooning vocals are reminiscent of Bakersfield-style singer, Wynn Stewart, as he reflects with honesty at his careless behavior. The song was conceived from the first hand account of wrecking his car twice in one week, partying hard, and realizing he had to get his act together. "It's probably my favorite of all the songs I've written," Elliot commented. "I had a little fun with some friends and got a little too wild. It's a coming down song." When he reaches the line, "why am I misunderstood?" listeners forget that the San Diego southerner is only eighteen, as he speaks from a place of maturity and worldly experience. Elliot aims to bring California country back with a timeless voice that aches at the thought of his mistakes with women and drinking.
Rick Elliot returned to the studio with producer John Avila, former member of Oingo Boingo, who has been pivotal in helping Elliot capture his traditional western style. Elliot's deep vocals channel the outlaw spirit of his greatest inspirations, like Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. Gavin Lurssen (T Bone Burnett, Foo Fighters) helped to build this classic sound, mastering the song with a blend of nostalgia and a clean, modern twist. Playing guitar and piano at a young age, Elliot took to country as a teenager and became consumed by a passion for original southern music. He spent the previous year of 2014 touring, which earned him the chance to share the stage with acts such as The Marshall Tucker Band and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real.
Rick Elliot's music is exactly what you can expect to be playing in honky-tonks across the country as he builds an impressive catalogue of outlaw country. The single is now available on iTunes along with Elliot's previous releases, "West of the Rockies" and "Let it Shine." You can learn more about Elliot and his music at Facebook.com/RickElliotMusic!
