New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Sony Electronics) Today, Sony Electronics and online music and film publication Consequence of Sound hosted a special screening of a feature music documentary, The Art of Listening, at an invitation-only gathering at the Hotel Van Zandt in the heart of Austin's prolific music scene in the midst of the SXSW Music Festival.

The Art of Listening is a documentary about the journey that music takes to reach a listener's ear, from the intent of an instrument maker and composer, to the producers and engineers who capture and master the final work. The film is narrated by a wide variety of intimate conversations with the artists about the philosophy of their work, combined with a visual narrative of their process.

"Music is a powerful tool for storytelling and capturing emotion for artists and their creative teams." said Michael Coleman and Emmanuel Morán the co-directors of The Art of Listening. "We see this film as an extension of the conversation among music enthusiast on both sides of the microphone."

"Our commitment to deliver music the way the artist intended, in high-quality sound, runs deeply throughout Sony." said Rosemary Flynn, Director of Marketing, Home Entertainment and Sound, Sony Electronics. "We are rallying behind The Art of Listening because it so deftly conveys the emotional impact that music has upon all participants in the music making experience, from the artists, producers and engineers to our valued customers, the listeners."

The film also underscores the tectonic shifts in the way listeners can hear their favorite artists. As music Grammy Winning Engineer Andrew Scheps said in the film, "We are just getting to the point where the Internet can handle good-sounding audio. We are right at the beginning of where we talk about what music should sound like."

In addition to viewing the movie, the audience was able to experience the pristine clarity at Sony Hi-Res Audio listening stations. After the screening, the movie viewers were treated to a live performance by Christopher Willits, the composer of The Art of Listening soundtrack.

Attendees at the event, which was co-presented with online music and film publication Consequence of Sound, included the filmmakers and several of those featured in interviews throughout the film. A number of music industry and consumer electronics leaders were also in attendance, along with high profile producers, special guests and SXSW music festival participants.

Director Michael Coleman's work has been featured in such films as The Rolling Stones, Crossfire Hurricane, Metallica: Through the Never, G .I. Joe: Retaliation, All is Lost, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Aerosmith's multi-platinum film, You Gotta Move. Director Emmanuel Morán's past film and television projects include Morgan Spurlock's The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Mansome, ComicCon Episode IV: A Fan's Hope, The Dotted Line, Ellen Goosenberg's Wartorn, and No Dog Left Behind.

On Thursday, March 17 at 12:30PM CT Sony Electronics will participate in a SXSW panel sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) ™ entitled, "Hi-Res Audio in Every Earbud" in which three pioneers in the field of Hi-Res Audio (HRA) will explore what makes this format superior and what the transition to a better audio experience looks like.
