Fort Wayne Makes Waves In The Midwest Music Festival Scene
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Middle Waves, Fort Wayne, Indiana's first-ever destination music festival, will take place on the St. Marys riverfront in downtown Fort Wayne's Headwaters Park on Friday and Saturday, September 16 and 17th, 2016. The all-ages festival will include two free community stages, interactive river and art activities, local food trucks and vendors, artists, culture-makers, VIP experiences, and more.

The indie eclectic lineup of 20+ performers currently includes: The Flaming Lips, Best Coast, Doomtree, Jeff the Brotherhood, Sidewalk Chalk, Metavari, Either/Or, and Heaven's Gateway Drugs. "There is an undeniable momentum in Fort Wayne. Today, our communityparticularly those in the 18-34 demographichave a powerful demand for quality of life assets and events that are passionate, diverse and authentic," says Alison Gerardot, event co-chair and director of programming and events for Riverfront Fort Wayne. "There's a growing excitement and energy for all things riverfront. The community has made it clear they are hungry for events in the heart of Fort Wayne, specifically on the banks of our rivers," Gerardot continued.

This will be the first time The Flaming Lips has played in Fort Wayne in nearly three decades. Once a little-known psychedelic rock band from Oklahoma, the band played Fort Wayne's legendary east-side underground rock club 7th level in 1988. One of the band's earliest studios was built with gear purchased from what was then a small Fort Wayne startup called Sweetwater Sound. The Flaming Lips are now one of the world's most renowned live and studio bands, and Sweetwater Sound is now one of the largest retailers in the worldand the festival's presenting sponsor.

Middle Waves is a non-profit community event (part of Cultural Advancement Projects, LLC) that operates with Arts United's 501(c)(3) and relies on the financial support of local businesses, including presenting sponsor Sweetwater, and main stage sponsor Parkview Health.
