Nashville Mayor Proclaims October 10th John Prine Day At Sold-Out Ryman Show
NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts) Nashville Mayor Megan Barry proclaimed October 10, 2016 will be John Prine Day in Nashville, last night during a surprise appearance at the second of Prine's two sold-out shows at the Ryman Auditorium. Prine, who turns 70 on October 10, played the Ryman to celebrate his birthday and the release of his new duets album 'For Better, Or Worse,' released September 30 on Oh Boy/Thirty Tigers.

Mayor Barry thanked the legendary songwriter and 35+ year Music City resident "for all the amazing things you've done for Nashville," before presenting Prine with the keys to the city (piano keys, naturally).

Mayor Barry was not the only special guest at the Ryman this weekend. Several Prine collaborators, friends and family also joined him onstage, including Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Amanda Shires, Lee Ann Womack, 'For Better, Or Worse' producer Jim Rooney, and Prine's sons Tommy and Jack on Friday; and Dan Auerbach, Kathy Mattea, Sturgill Simpson, Holly Williams and Prine's wife Fiona on Saturday.

The Ryman shows capped a busy week for Prine. After celebrating the 45th anniversary of his legendary first album with a front-to-back performance at Nashville's Station Inn during Americanafest, Prine appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert (dueting with both Holly Williams and Colbert himself) on September 28, and spoke with Marc Maron for the latest episode of his WTF podcast, which posted September 29.

'For Better, Or Worse' features duets with Iris DeMent, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Susan Tedeschi, and others on classic country songs by Hank Williams, George Jones, Buck Owens and more. It has earned rave reviews with NPR saying "Everything that comes out of [Prine's] mouth feels like a well-worn but treasured old anecdote shared between trusted friends or family members."
