Ultimate Excursions: Vacation Destinations For Music Lovers
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Havana, Cuba is a city best known for its provocative music and dances like the cha-cha, rumba, samba and the timba. Through a tour with the Cuban program "Jazz in Havana," tourists get to experience the exciting music of Cuba, including some of the country's top musicians, recording studios and performance venues. Saturday night music concerts include the sultry sounds of Latin Jazz while dancers keep the rhythmic beat.

In Trinidad and Tobago the music is fast, funky and full of soul. The Steelpan is a Caribbean drum-like instrument commonly seen today which dates back to the early 1700's. The Steelpan was originally played by slaves who were brought to the islands from Africa. Chutney is a mixture of local folk music and Indian Bhojpuri music. Its upbeat and rhythmic sound is so common to the area; it can be heard playing from cars, restaurants and clubs all over the islands. Visitors will find participation is strongly encouraged.

San Francisco, California was the top music scene in the 1960's. It's where the likes of Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, the Rolling Stones and many others got their start via Virginia City, Nevada. Though the music has changed over the years, great performances can still be experienced at many of the same venues these musical legends once performed. The Fillmore, Candlestick Park, Bottom of the Hill and Slims, continue to bring in some of today's best musicians. Haight-Ashbury's Amoeba Music Store still stands selling records and hosting live shows.

For a more classical music lover, there's no better place than Vienna, Austria, known as the "City of Music." The music season lasts from September through June where the music of Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Mahler, Schubert, and Strauss is celebrated. Vienna also hosts a number of other special musical events each year and the Vienna Philharmonic performing in the historic Wiener Konzerthaus is considered a must-see.
