Doug Woolverton & Little Lightning Presents "A Tribute To Miles Davis", 2017
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Doug Woolverton & Little Lightning Productions is pleased to announce, Doug Woolverton's originally produced and live performance, "A Tribute to Miles Davis" coming back August 3rd for the 2nd annual performance to the Jane Pickens theater in beautiful downtown Newport Rhode Island! On an annual basis since 2012, this incredibly crafted show has become a popular musical performance and hugely successful among traditional Miles Davis fans to music enthusiasts of all ages. Due to Doug's sellout event in 2016, he has been asked to perform and produce this concert again the Thursday evening before the historic Newport Jazz Festival.

Doug Woolverton's tribute to Miles Davis will bring you back in time through the sounds and styles of the carefully hand-picked song selections that he and his world class team of musicians will perform (musicians to be announced soon). This years tribute concert will center around Miles Davis' sounds and hits from the 1970's to the early 1990's and will showcase Doug's natural ability to channel Davis' sounds and style through his 1947 Martin Committee trumpet* and his secret weapon: a custom built pedal board which will produce sounds that will bring you on a musical journey. It was in these eras where Miles focused on funky grooves and the versatile sounds of his trumpet while showcasing his band members and their musicianship. Miles used the sound of his trumpet to imitate a lead vocalist, covering pop tunes and radio hits by famed artists like Michael Jackson, Cindy Lauper, and Prince. He arranged and recorded their hits, turning them into complete instrumentals and maintained at the top of the pop charts as an instrumentalist.

Woolverton's band for this special show will consist of: Trumpet, Tenor sax, B3/Rhodes, Keyboard/Synth, Guitar, Bass, Drums, vocalist on a few hand picked songs, and special guests - Musicians names to be announced soon. Please check www.DougWoolverton.com for updates.

* MARTIN COMMITTEE TRUMPET - In the late 1930s, the Martin Instrument company started working on a new trumpet design based on input from a "committee" of leading instrument designers and trumpet players. A team of the best in the field: well-known horn makers Renold Schilke, Vincent Bach, Elden Benge and Foster Reynolds put all of their knowledge and thoughts together to create the greatest playing trumpet ever. They produced and manufactured these amazing horns from the 1930's to the mid to late 1950's.

The Martin Committee trumpet is one of the most highly sought of instruments of any collector. Martin Committee trumpets have been played by some of America's greatest jazz legends.
The horn became widely adopted in jazz music because of its warm, rich sound and flexible intonation. It has a unique sound that has been described as "dark and smokey". Miles Davis played custom-made Committees throughout his career. Other notable players include Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Chet Baker, Lee Morgan, Maynard Ferguson, Art Farmer, Wallace Roney, and Chris Botti.
