New York, NY (Top40 Charts) For The Capitol Theatre,
Bob Dylan marking the 500th performance on Thursday, June 15 is a dream come true. The historic venue re-opened its doors, after an extensive renovation, with Dylan as the first performer, on
September 4, 2012. Now the Capitol is proud to come full circle with this momentous milestone.
2017 is a particularly special year for The Cap, as it marks the venue's fifth year in operation, and its 91st birthday as a venue.
"We booked
Bob Dylan for our first show in 2012, and have worked since that magical opening night to get him back to the Capitol," said The Capitol Theatre's owner,
Peter Shapiro. "We know it's a venue that he loves so we kept at it. We were thrilled to get 3 nights. It's the kind of run that historic shows come out of. And when we booked the show we didn't even realize that it would be our 500th show since Bob played on night one. It just happened that way -- and that's the magic of The Capitol Theatre."
With many shows already planned for 2017, including Dawes, Bill Burr, Graham Nash, John Mulaney, Joe Russo's
Almost Dead, Lake Street Dive, Donald Fagen, Amos Lee, Lyle Lovett, Ben Harper, John Butler Trio, Father John Misty, Yes featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman, Pixies, Modest Mouse, ZZ Top, and John McLaughlin & Jimmy Herring, The Capitol Theatre certainly has a big year ahead.

Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The
National Register of Historic Places, the Capitol is located 30 miles from NYC, accessible by I-95 and only one block from the Port Chester Metro North train station. The 2,000-capacity theater, known as "the original rock palace," showcased rock legends such as
Black Sabbath, Chuck Berry,
David Bowie, Derek and the Dominos, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Jerry Garcia once called it his favorite venue, claiming, "See, there's only two theaters, man… that are set up pretty groovy all around for music and for smooth stage changes, good lighting and all that - the Fillmore and The Capitol Theatre. And those are the only two in the whole country."
In 2012, the Capitol Theatre underwent a transformative renovation under the guidance of entrepreneur
Peter Shapiro (Brooklyn Bowl, Lockn' Festival, the "Fare Thee Well"
Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary stadium shows, music magazine Relix, FANS). Since then, The Capitol has hosted many of music's most prominent performers including Bob Dylan, Phil Lesh, Ringo Starr, Ryan Adams, Skrillex, Snoop Dogg, The Strokes, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, and many more. The Capitol has also welcomed comedians like
Kevin Hart and Amy Schumer. The New York Times raves: "A rock theater that looks and sounds as good as the Capitol is something to celebrate."
