Millennium Park featuring the world's greatest mariachi bands on June 25, 2017.
Making their
Chicago debut, Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Colima presents a breathtaking Mexican folkloric dance spectacle, Orgullo de la Tierra Mía, featuring 36 dancers and 24 live musicians. Founded 36 years ago under the direction of legendary Mexican choreographer Rafael Zamarripa, Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Colima is one of Mexico's leading cultural arts institutions and most renowned folkloric dance company. The performance takes place on June 24, 2017 beginning at 7:30 pm at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University located at 50 E. Congress Parkway. Ticket prices range between $40 and $75.
The 3rd annual
Chicago Mariachi Festival is free to the public and takes place at
Millennium Park's Cloud Gate and Jay Pritzker Pavilion on June 25, 2017 beginning at 2:00 pm located at 201 E. Randolph Street (between Michigan and Columbus Avenue). Mariachi band headliners include Mariachi Los Camperos (Los Angeles, CA), Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA), Mariachi Aztlán of the University of Texas-Río Grande Valley (Edinburg, TX), and Mariachi Herencia de México (Chicago, IL). The Festival also features Mariachi Heritage Foundation student mariachi bands from seven
Chicago Public Schools.
About the Mariachi Heritage Foundation (MHF)
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2013, the MHF exists to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of mariachi music through school-based mariachi music education programs and performing arts concerts in Chicago.
