NPR Music Premieres The Pollyseeds' Video For "Intentions"

New York, NY (Top40 Charts) "An LA supergroup has made the album of the summer - and it's jazz." - The Times of London

"Terrace Martin's work as a bandleader comes into focus with quiet storm, R&B, and deep grooves that show the composer and instrumentalist making strides." - Pitchfork

"...an album that's part smooth jazz, part G-funk, and part post-Neptunes R&B." - Stereogum

The Pollyseeds just premiered their video for "Intentions (feat. Chachi)" at NPR Music, who said the video is "oozing with style." The track is off The Pollyseeds' debut album Sounds of Crenshaw Vol. 1, which was recently released via Ropeadope.

The Pollyseeds is a collaborative group of A-list producers, musicians, and creators including Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, Robert "Sput" Searight, Rose Gold, Trevor Lawrence Jr, Craig Brockman, and more. Along with his 2016 Grammy nominated album Velvet Portraits, the group's founder Terrace Martin is known for his work with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, and YG. So far, Sounds of Crenshaw Vol. 1 has been praised by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Stereogum, The New York Times, The FADER, Billboard, Consequence of Sound, and more.

Sounds Of Crenshaw Vol 1. Is a tight collection of personal songs about the unfolding challenges of love and life. A particular vibe permeates the album as each member of the band contributes their personal experience. Vocalists Chachi, Wyann Vaughn, and Rose Gold dance around, with Martin's signature vocoder directing the dance.

Last month, Zane Lowe premiered the group's track "Funny How Time Flies" on his Beats 1 Radio show as a World Record. Stream or embed the song along with Lowe's conversation with Pollyseed Terrace Martin: http://apple.co/_ThePollyseeds

"To honestly express yourself at a high level while paying homage, yet being current and innovating the times... is The Pollyseeds," Pollyseed Robert Glasper says of the project. Continuing with the theme of innovation, Pollyseed Rose Gold says "the band is about progression. Never becoming comfortable. Always growing. And always pushing the envelope."

Crenshaw Blvd is best known as the commercial spine of Black and Latino Los Angeles, as well as a transitional home for displaced middle class Japanese Americans after WW2. While it begins and ends in the wealthy neighborhoods like Hancock and Rolling Hills, the other parts of Crenshaw Blvd are where the action was. The classic Maverick's Flat - the Apollo Of The West — featured acts like Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Ike and Tina Turner, and Parliament. There can be no argument that this is where the soul resides. The creativity, the street culture, the real stories of struggle and defiant joy - all are found here in a land of eternal sun and concrete. This is the place where low riders would cruise, immortalized in songs and videos by west coast rappers. You can draw a parallel with Harlem River Drive here, but Crenshaw is solid Los Angeles.

Terrace Martin knows the true value of the corner of Crenshaw and Slauson in his own evolution, and its importance to the world. On SOC Volume 1, he brings together some of The Pollyseeds and distills the seemingly disparate pieces of Crenshaw's history into an instantly recognizable sound.

Focusing heavily on songwriting, The Pollyseeds pay heed to TSOP, The Funk Brothers, and The Wrecking Crew, as well as early Steely Dan. This family of musicians is making the records that those artists never did, because they live in a time where it is possible.

Sounds of Crenshaw Vol. 1 is out now via Ropeadope.
