New Republic Studios Announces New Ownership Of Central Texas Film Studio Facility And Backlot
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) We have a vision for New Republic that anticipates the future and serves the needs of emerging content makers. AR and VR are just two frontiers where tech and creativity are coming together. We want New Republic to be ready for that.

New Republic Studios announced today it has purchased the former Spiderwood Studios backlot and facilities complex in Bastrop County, bringing in new management of the facility under 30-year veteran John S. Robison and a plan to expand into new media development. The studio is set to add on to the existing facilities with future work spaces designed for augmented reality, virtual reality, animation, audio production and more.

Formerly known as Spiderwood Studios, the studio facility located southeast of downtown Austin opened in 2009 under founder Tommy G. Warren. The facility features four purpose-built sound stages with a cyclorama wall, plus thousands of square feet of dedicated production and office space, all atop 200 acres of Texas landscape on the Colorado River, manicured for video production. Entrepreneur John Robison - whose relationship with the film industry began in 1994 and now serves on the board of directors for the Austin Film Society - saw an opportunity to expand upon what Warren had begun by building out a new range of creative resources at New Republic Studios, especially flexible production office space.

"This studio facility has the resources and facilities to serve creators in Texas in the present, but we have a vision for New Republic that anticipates the future and serves the needs of emerging content makers," said Robison. "AR and VR are just two frontiers where tech and creativity are coming together, and they're expected to explode in the next 5 years. We want New Republic to be ready for that."

Robison's vision for the future of New Republic Studios as a multi-platform creative campus not only for the television and film industry, but also new media companies, comes in part from his decades-long career at the intersection of entertainment, content and technology. Prior to launching New Republic Studios, Robison and business partner Morgan Warstler built and invested in a number of technology companies - identifying and securing innovative developers and technology from around the globe beginning with E-Systems (now owned by Raytheon). This background paired with decades of experience in the film industry with multiple movie production companies, and roots in Texas from his time at Texas A&M ('85), led Robison to Spiderwood Studios, and his vision for the future as New Republic Studios.

With Robison's expertise, a team of forward-thinking and customer service-focused staff, and New Republic's location near Austin, where emerging new media and technology companies are primed to thrive, New Republic Studios aims to become a hub for the creation and production of innovative creative content. Future plans include the creation of numerous sound stages, post production capabilities, crew and talent housing, CGI animation, an audio and music recording studio and more - the largest and most exhaustive facility of its kind in the region.

Moving into 2018, the studio has recruited a new, forward-thinking team including Mindy Raymond, who served as the Texas Motion Picture Alliance's executive director for three years. Today, Raymond is New Republic's director of marketing and development.

"Texas, and especially Austin, has a wonderful support structure for creative industries, and we want to continue to support new creative industries as they arise," said Raymond. "At New Republic, we have the resources and the flexibility to support production at any scale, and are able to make our clients' visions a reality. We're excited to meet our clients' needs in the present while looking forward to being the epicenter of technology and media in the near future."
