New York, NY (Top40 Charts) 'Today It Rains', the debut release from Merseysider Esme Bridie, is a remarkably mature album considering the singer songwriter's youth. The record illustrates Esme's gift for composition and poetic lyricism, dealing with the themes of love and loss, redemption and guilt, from the perspective of someone born at the cusp of the 21st Century.
It's easy to recognise Esme Bridie's influences, ranging from Joni Mitchell, June Tabor and The Oyster Band to Joan Baez and The
Waterboys at their finest. 'Today It Rains' was recorded during Esme's visits home from Leeds University, under the watchful eye of producer Colin McKay, fresh from his work on
Thomas Lang's 'The German Alphabet'. McKay has also worked with the likes of
Martin Hannett, Half Man, Half Biscuit, Probe Plus Records as well as undertaking house engineer duties for Liverpool's legendary Deltasonic label.
'Today It Rains' showcases Esme's considerable musical talent and her keen ear for melody. Add to this her lyrical mastery and we have a work of true beauty and strength - the original definition of the word Bridie. Apt indeed.
