New York, NY (Top40 Charts) San Francisco duo Love Jerks have released their song "Doing It Our Way" today via BlackBook. The track appears on their forthcoming debut album, Million Movies, out in November 2, 2018. The offspring of two lead singers-Bryan Garza of Scissors for Lefty (vocals, guitar) and Rebecca Garza-Bortman of Happy Fangs and My First Earthquake (vocals, bass)-Love Jerks was born when these two jerks, yes, fell in love. "Doing It Our Way" might be the only duet ever recorded where you can actually hear the singers get married in the middle of a song. After Bryan Garza popped the question to Rebecca Bortman on stage during a show where both bands were billed (she said yes), the couple decided their wedding should be just as rock & roll as their engagement. The logical conclusion, much to their family's apprehension, was to write and perform 8 original songs, cast their family, friends and bandmates, and get married to an epic rock opera. And with a rumbling drum fill and some punchy power chords, "We're doing it our way" became their rally cry...and chorus for their latest single.
Midway through this recording, a hymn of wild cheers leads us to the actual soundbite where Garza & Bortman are pronounced husband and wife! Don't worry, it's ok if you get misty-eyed when you hear it, just as long as you pull it together and join in for the final chorus.
On Million Movies, Love Jerks' debut full-length, due out November 2, 2018, wry lyricism, playful melodies, and tendency to be tongue-in-cheek belie a deep reverence for the pop song as an art form. The influence of New Wave and art-rock titans like
David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Jarvis Cocker, and
Cyndi Lauper seeps from every guitar riff and each warm, infectious synth hook. More moody, modern torch-carriers like
Tame Impala can be heard in the wistful spaces between vocals, which the singers share in a kind of sonic banter.
Love Jerks will welcome Million Movies into the world in a way that only they would-by throwing an over-the-top rock opera release party at San Francisco's favorite spot for a 1950s prom, The Make-Out Room. The Million Movie Rock Opera will weave together the fantastical story behind the songs of their debut album together, without forgetting their origins as the lead singers of two different bands, Bryan with Scissors for Lefty & Rebecca with My First Earthquake.
