"I started working on the ideas in 'Rain Check' after a wild weekend in NYC in which MMJ played Carnegie hall and we went to the Sleep No More living theatre experience/real virtual reality play in the McKittrick Hotel," said Broemel about the song. "Without giving too much away, the whole experience is infused with lots of great music from the '30s and '40s, and the songs really stuck with me for a long time. It felt like the ghosts of the past were swirling around the place, like you are in a time machine. It took a while for me to recover from all the activities and too much booze, but every once in a while, it feels worth it to go a little too far! We deserve to blow off some steam in this crazy world, and then get back to work, but maybe a day later then you planned."

Recently, Broemel was interviewed by Strand of Oaks' Timothy Showalter for Paste Magazine where they discussed writing, touring, recording and more. Stream Wished Out via YouTube:

Consequence of Sound premiered the album in its entirety and called it, "some of the most energetic, honest work of Broemel's quietly excellent career." Relix said, "His fourth LP, Wished Out, picks up exactly where he left off with 2016's 4th of July —like a man sauntering back out to the patio and whittling away at the same perfect piece of wood."

Broemel recorded Wished Out at his newly-constructed home studio in Nashville, tracking many of the instruments alone before reaching out to several friends - including Robbie Crowell (Deer Tick), Russ Pollard (Everest, Sebadoh), and My Morning Jacket bandmates Tom Blankenship and Bo Koster - for help.
He worked in spurts, taking short breaks to drive his son to school and longer breaks to hit the road with My Morning Jacket, and pulled triple duty as Wished Out's producer, engineer, and frontman along the way.
