SANTA MONICA, CA. (Red Bull Music Academy) - Over the past seven years, the Red Bull Music Academy has traveled the globe fostering an international exchange of music, ideologies and culture. After memorable stops in Berlin, Dublin, New York, London, Sao Paulo, Cape Town, and Rome, this year, the Red Bull Music Academy will follow the rhythm to the "Emerald City" and cultural hub of America's Great Northwest - Seattle, Washington. Here, the Red Bull Music Academy will continue its wholly unique approach to modern music education and appreciation, building a free-wielding curriculum composed of - in the words of Public Enemy - "food for the brain, beats for the feet."

HIGHER LEARNING
Not your typical school, Red Bull Music Academy has no tests, no text books and no grades. The students are a group of 60 DJs, musicians and producers from as many as 30 nations representing a diverse range of musical landscapes, cultures and backgrounds. Lecturers and mentors range from living legends and essential old school figures to some of the most talented young craftspeople making music today. Past lecturers include legendary Funk drummer Bernard Purdie, Bob Moog - creator of the first commercially available synthesizer, David Matthews, The X-ecutioners, Derrick Carter, Carl Craig, A-trak, Gilberto Gil, Prince Paul, and The Beat Junkies. As for the classes ... let's just say they don't include the standard chalkboard and wooden desks. Classes are held in practice/recording studios equipped with turntable set-ups, mixers, samplers, keyboards and the latest music production software. The real 'skoolin' begins after nightfall, when the "classroom" bleeds into the local night clubs where students translate the day's lesson into intoxicating performances alongside local talent.

THE PROCESS
Prospective applicants must send a completed questionnaire along with a mix-CD or selections of his/her own music and a current photo to the Red Bull Music Academy between April 18th and June 3rd, 2005. There is no cost to apply for the Academy. Applications and information will be posted at https://www.redbullmusicacademy.com.
Once the application period has ended, 60 of the most promising applicants will be invited to the workshops in Seattle. Flights and accommodations will be covered by the Red Bull Music Academy.
If invited, participants should plan on being a part of either Term 1 (November 6th - November 18th, 2005) or Term 2 (November 27th - December 9th, 2005).
By July 29th, 2005, all applicants will be notified via email whether they have been invited. Those who have applied previously but have yet to be invited are encouraged to dust themselves off and try again. As several past second or third-time applicants have learned, perseverance can most definitely pay off.
Photos, video and information on past Red Bull Music Academy sessions can be accessed online at https://www.redbullmusicacademy.com. For all press inquiries, please contact Nyla Wilkins at 310.460.5154 or at [email protected].
