SYDNEY, Australia (Universal Music Australia) - For her relative youth, Canadian Leslie Feist carries an impressive though eclectic resume. She has lived and toured with Peaches, rapped with Chilly Gonzales, sang with the Kings Of Convenience and toured with By Divine Right. She has been rightfully hailed as one of this generation finest songwriters, not just by the music press, but those qualified to make such assertions: Bright Eyes and Neil Young.

Her major label debut, Let It Die, is a collection of stripped down, sensual acoustic based pop songs with touches of trip-hop, bossa, disco, gospel, indie-rock, and jazz. It is a beautifully low-key affair, but it is also an album that slowly works its way into your consciousness and becomes both life affirming and life changing

She's a torch singer with a beautiful, captivating voice. Her charismatic songwriting distances her from Norah Jones or Madeleine Peyroux, yet Feist would certainly appeal to fans of both. It's old-time and contemporary, whimsical and minimalist, and as clear and shimmering as water.

There are artists who talk about blurring boundaries, others who work diligently to cultivate curious palettes, and then there is that rare breed for whom fusion is so organic it's as if categories had never existed at all.

Sometimes it's hard to remember that good music isn't about tabloid scandals or weirdo bands that play XTC songs on the glockenspiel. Fortunately, Feist is here to remind us that what really matters is putting on a pair of headphones and listening.

She's a Karen Carpenter for the chemical generation, making melodies worthy of Burt Bacharach and this September, a handful of Australians will have the privilege to witness her perform at 3 intimate shows.
