NEW YORK (Rnb NY magazine) - LL Cool J is joining Samuel L. Jackson (XXX), Colin Farrell (Minority Report), and Michelle Rodriguez (Blue Crush) in a cinematic update of the '70s action show, S.W.A.T. Rapper-turned-actor LL Cool J--who now uses his birth name James Todd Smith for his movie work--will take part in the action flick, which centers on a team of Los Angeles Police S.W.A.T. agents charged with transporting a drug lord who has offered $100 million to the person who can free him. The movie is slated for release on August 8, 2003.

Since his 1985 screen debut in Krush Groove, LL Cool J has appeared in more than a dozen feature films, including Halloween H20, Any Given Sunday, Charlie's Angels, and Rollerball. He's also appeared on the TV series Oz, In The House, and Ned And Stacey. His salary has also climbed throughout the years, and it was reportedly $1 million per film by the time he made Rollerball.

LL Cool J has had longer success than almost any rapper, earning his first gold album in 1986 for his album Radio--an achievement made without the benefit of a top-40 hit. He has since amassed a total of nine gold albums, seven platinum albums, and three double-platinum albums, as well as seven gold singles and two platinum singles.
