LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ MySpace PR) - MySpace, the world's most popular social network, today announced the second annual 'Rock for Darfur' (www.myspace.com/RockForDarfur), a one-day philanthropic concert event created by MySpace to generate awareness and raise funds for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. On Saturday, Nov. 10, 37 pre-scheduled concerts will take place across four continents and showcase passionate bands that share the common goal of promoting peace in the African region. Fans can show their support for the cause by attending one of the local concerts taking place world wide. MySpace has arranged for a portion of proceeds from each concert to be donated to Oxfam America (https://www.myspace.com/Oxfam), a leading international relief and development organization, and to the Save Darfur Coalition (https://www.myspace.com/SaveDarfurCoalition), an alliance of more than 180 faith-based, advocacy and human rights organizations, united together to help the people of Darfur.

'Rock for Darfur is another of MySpace's efforts to empower our community to make a positive impact on the world,' said Jeff Berman, Senior Vice President for Public Affairs at MySpace. 'Our users are connecting with each other around the world, online and off, to address pressing issues, both locally and globally.'

The 'Rock for Darfur' concerts will feature bands from around the world representing all genres of music including pop, rock, country, punk and reggae, uniting to make a positive impact on the Darfur crisis. Last year's 22 'Rock for Darfur' concerts together raised $50,000 for relief efforts. Oxfam will use the funds raised to help provide those in Chad and the Darfur region of Sudan with basic supplies such as clean water, shelter, blankets, soap and disease prevention programs. The Save Darfur Coalition raises public awareness about the ongoing genocide in Darfur and mobilizes a unified response to the atrocities that threaten the lives of people throughout the Darfur region.

'As I watch the fire around my Southern California home, I know that the devastation of losing treasured personal property, a house, or even a whole city, cannot compare to the evil atrocities that the children and parents of Darfur have had to endure under the ongoing genocide,' said Dave Mustaine, lead guitarist, songwriter, and singer for the metal band, Megadeth. 'I hope and pray you too will join in helping the people of Darfur in a small way by attending a 'Rock for Darfur' concert on November 10. All donations, large and small, are very necessary to help overpower this tragedy. I am doing my part, will you do yours?'

In addition to its efforts with 'Rock for Darfur,' MySpace is working with Warner Independent Pictures and Participant Productions on the upcoming feature film 'Darfur Now' (https://www.myspace.com/DarfurNow). Opening in select theaters on Nov. 2, 'Darfur Now' is the critically acclaimed documentary film following six individuals doing their part to bring peace to Darfur, including Academy Award nominated actor Don Cheadle. Content from the film is featured on the 'Rock for Darfur' profile page, including an exclusive video message from Cheadle to the MySpace community to take action and help raise awareness about the crisis.

A public service announcement produced by Participant Productions will be available on MySpace and broadcast at participating 'Rock for Darfur' concert venues. The PSA features Cheadle, Brad Pitt, Jessica Beil, Lauren Bush, NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb and NBA stars Tracy McGrady and Steve Nash, among many others, all calling for an end to the crisis in Darfur, NOW. Additionally, the MySpace and Participant Productions are working together on a screening program that will take the film to markets nationwide.

The 'Rock for Darfur' profile will be housed on the Impact Channel (https://impact.myspace.com/) MySpace's hub for social and civic engagement, designed to empower MySpace users to make a difference in the world and to allow politicians, non-profits, and civic organizations to connect with MySpace's global audience. The Impact Channel houses the official MySpace pages for all of the major party Presidential candidates, as well as tools to enable voter registration, fundraising, and volunteering.
