Music Awards today announced that Chris Brown, Duran Duran,
Maroon 5 and will.i.am have been confirmed to perform at the 2007 American
Music Awards. The 35th annual edition of the popular awards show, which is produced by Dick Clark Productions, Inc., will be broadcast live on ABC, Sunday, November 18 (8:00 pm ET/PT) from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles.
Brown, Duran Duran, Maroon 5 and will.i.am will join Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, Daughtry, Fergie, Nicole Scherzinger and Rihanna, who were previously announced as performers.
For the first time in awards show history music fans everywhere can chose which song a musical act plays during the live broadcast on ABC. This year Duran Duran, working in coordination with Coca-Cola and Dick Clark Productions, will allow members of the general public to choose which hit song from the past they perform. Individuals who log on to My Coke Rewards can choose to vote for either Hungry Like The Wolf, Notorious or Reach Up for the Sunrise. Voting at mycokerewards.com begins November 1 and ends November 14.
Duran Duran's next album, Red Carpet Massacre, will be released in mid-November. The legendary band collaborated with Justin Timberlake on 'Falling Down,' the first single from the new album. The legendary band has placed 21 singles in the Billboard Hot 100 and 30 in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart, and have sold more than 85 million records during their more than thirty years together.
Pop sensation Chris Brown is set to release his second album, Exclusive on November 6, 2007. Exclusive is the follow-up to his self-titled debut album, released in November 2005, which debuted at No 1 in Billboard and which was recently certified double-platinum, having sold 1.9 million copies in the U.S. and more than three million worldwide. Maroon 5, a Los Angeles band known for their hybrid rock/R&B sound, released their second studio album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, in May 2007. The album debuted at No 1 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of nearly half a million. In early May, their hit single, Makes Me Wonder, skyrocketed from 64 to No 1 on the Billboard charts, the biggest jump in Billboard history. The single has also achieved No 1 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs, Pop 100, and Hot Dance Club Play charts. In addition to performing, Maroon 5 is nominated for an American Music Award in the category of Favorite Band, Duo, or Group. They were previously nominated in 2005 for Favorite Artist.
will.i.am is the front man and producer behind the multi-platinum group, The Black Eyed Peas. The three-time Grammy award winning artist has established himself as one of music's top producers and has collaborated on tracks with Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Kelis, Nas, The Game, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Sergio Mendes, Carlos Santana, The Pussycat Dolls, Busta Rhymes and fellow Black Eyed Pea, Fergie.
