LOS ANGELES (AMA Website) - R&B singer Ashanti leads the nomination pack for the upcoming 30th annual American Music Awards, which will be held Jan. 13 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. She's up for a total of five awards.

Nominees in 20 categories were announced at a Tuesday (Nov. 19) morning ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills by vocalist Toni Braxton and JC Chavez of 'NSync. "Ladies first," said Chavez as he let Braxton begin reading the names. Returning show M.C. Dick Clark was also on hand for the unveilings.

Ashanti's self-titled debut, one of the year's run-away best-sellers, is up for two awards. She is also up for Favorite New Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Hip-Hop/R&B categories, and Favorite Female Artist in the Hip-Hop/R&B category.

Hip-hoppers Eminem and Nelly tied for the second-most AMA nominations with four each. The pair nominated for Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album under the Pop/Rock and Hip-Hop/R&B bannners, as well as for Favorite Album in both categories.

Enrique Iglesias earned the remaining Favorite Male Artist nod in the Pop/Rock category, while Ja Rule was the third Favorite Male nominee for Hip-Hop/R&B.

Favorite Female Artist, Pop/Rock nominees include Sheryl Crow, Celine Dion (who is one of 10 artists earning two nominations), and Pink. Joining Ashanti in the Hip-Hop/R&B Favorite Female category are Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Lopez.

The 30th Annual American Music Awards will be hosted by the four starring family members of The Osbournes.
