IRVINE, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Finger Records) - Mel Torment and the band Unit F will be releasing their latest album "American Shutdown" October 25th 2008 on Finger Records and will be performing in support of the album. Mel describes the context of the album "From the punk songs, to the songs which reflect more of the rock elements, there is an even bite to them." The band has been in the Orange County punk scene for over a decade, with their debut release "Hollow City" being critically acclaimed in the alt/punk scene. Greg Hetson describes his time in the studio with Unit F: "Mel was always striving to get a better vocal take.he would not leave the booth until he succeeded...and if were up to me he'd still be in there!! Seriously, he and the band worked hard to strive to a higher level.the world needs more bands like unit f that combine good music with intelligent lyrical content." Mel states: "Having the chance to work with Greg Hetson and Steve Kravac was an opportunity that I feel changed Unit F as a band, and myself as a songwriter and a vocalist. Both Greg and Steve brought so much experience to the whole process of recording American Shutdown, that we could help but evolve as a band. Musically, they helped us capture the tones and the dynamics which really help propell the ideas and concepts. When asked how he feels about the message of American Shutdown in today's political and social environment, Mel states: "Heh. Well, it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach that the conditions which spurred all the political railing that is evident in songs like Without Reason, American Shutdown and Secret Government...are still firmly in place. I am stunned that the topics are still everybit as timely now as when they were first addressed three years. Other songs on the album deal with the bands local issues. "We had the whole Orange County jailhouse murder and inmate abuse scandal, the trial of our corrupt Sheriff Corona was national news, and yet, the injustice which dictates a two tier system that is addressed in I See Grey and I am the D.A. still exist. Consumption Fix address the ridiculous system of materialistic possesionism that parades as American Culture, and that of course is now helping to collapse the economy.
