New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Noir-ish UK sensation Gemma Ray recently told music site Delusions of Adequacy she was aiming for 'The Beach Boys On E' with standout track 'Fist of a Flower' from her new album 'Lights Out Zoltar!', out October 27 on Bronzerat Records. The result is not, however, quite so chirpy. 'I was determined not to slip into self-indulgent doom and gloom. My motto whilst making this album was to 'embrace the cheese,'' says Ray. 'I'm naturally drawn to the beauty of darker chords and soundscapes, so if I aim for The Beach Boys on E, the halfway point where I end up becomes an interesting juxtaposition.' Check out the moody, harmony drenched tune here: https://www.shorefire.com/media/Fist_Flower_20090901_101936.mp3 And check out the full interview here: https://www.adequacy.net/2009/08/interview-with-gemma-ray/ Recently the subject of a Mojo 'Rising' feature, she's already a critical darling in the UK, and fans include Jimmy Page and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Mojo says Ray is "wondrous... a true alternative to the wan psych-folk of todays lady-pop troupe,' while NME says 'Gemma Ray is untouchable".' With expansive emotions, sweeping orchestration, richly reverberating sounds, and a little bit of unease, Ray's songs recall early rock and roll through the lens of a late-night horror film. https://www.myspace.com/gemmaraymusic
