35th NAACP image award nominations: Outkast vs Outkast!

NEW YORK (NAACP website) - Outkast leads the pack with six nominations for the NAACP Image Awards to be held on March 6. The hip-hop outfit is up for Outstanding Duo or Group and Best Album for "Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below."
In an ironic twist, members Andre 3000 and Big Boi are also up against each other in two categories. Both Dre's "Hey Ya" and Big Boi's "The Way You Move" are nominated for Best Song and Best Music Video. The two Outkast members released two solo albums in one package this year, though Outkast claims they are still a group and have no plans to split.

The NAACP announced the nominations yesterday for its 35th NAACP IMAGE AWARDS, to be presented on Thursday, March 11 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), on FOX.
The nominations span 35 categories honoring outstanding achievements and performances by people of color in literature, television, motion pictures and recording arts.

In the recording categories, Outkast leads with six nominations and Beyonce was recognized with four nominations in the recording categories - including Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding New Artist, Outstanding Music Video and Outstanding Song for "Crazy in Love" - as well as a nomination in the motion picture category, for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture ("The Fighting Temptations").

The Showtime drama "Soul Food" leads all Image Award nominees with seven nominations in the television categories, including three in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, for Malinda Williams, Nicole Ari Parker and Vanessa Williams.

Founded in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its half-million adult and youth members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities and monitor equal opportunity in the public and private sectors.
