Join In The Chant: New York Polyphony And Indaba Music Announce 'Devices & Desires,' A Gregorian Chant Remix Competition
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Jaybird Communications) Acclaimed classical vocal quartet New York Polyphony is teaming up with Indaba Music to host "Devices & Desires," an online Gregorian chant remix competition. Set to launch today, the contest makes available three of the genre's "greatest hits": Victimae paschali laudes, Gaudeamus in omnes Domino, and Beati mundo corde. Each chant - recorded exclusively for Indaba Music by New York Polyphony - will be featured in a stand-alone contest, allowing fans to remix their favorite and compete for cash prizes. Check it out here: https://www.indabamusic.com/studio_access/new-york-polyphony-chant-remix-opportunity

Remixers have until June 13 to enter; public voting runs through June 27. In July, New York Polyphony will name three grand prize winners, one for each of the three chants. Each will receive $500, and the winning remixes, alongside the original chants, will be released as a digital EP exclusively on Ariama.com, the new online classical music store from Sony Music. Ten honorable mentions will be chosen by popular vote, and all winners will receive six-month Pro memberships to Indaba.

Though New York Polyphony, a classical vocal ensemble, and Indaba Music, a community-driven online platform for musicians, may seem like a strange combination, Gregorian chant and remixing is not. "Musicians have been remixing chants for centuries," says New York Polyphony's bass-baritone Craig Phillips. "From Mozart to Moby, they've been subjected to every treatment, technique and compositional device imaginable." With the help of Indaba's user-friendly interface, powerful web-based software and a user community of over half a million musicians, New York Polyphony hopes that the competition will yield groundbreaking and genre-bending results.

Indaba currently has more than 20 opportunities open for its members, including remixes for Paul Simon's "Love is Eternal Sacred Light" and Dirty Vegas' "Little White Doves," as well as opportunities for original compositions. Check them out at https://www.indabamusic.com/opportunities.

New York Polyphony has been called one of the hottest new ensembles in classical music. Critically acclaimed by NPR, Gramophone and BBC music, the group has toured extensively, performing in major concert venues and music festivals around the world. Their current CD Tudor City spent three weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard magazine's classical album chart and is being hailed as a "stunning tour through chant, polyphony and renaissance harmonies" (Minnesota Public Radio).
