Music dubbed them the country's " Rolling Stones" and now, for the first time in their career,
Mumiy Troll will release a full-length LP in English. 'Vladivostok' (4.24, The Village) is the band's most ambitious album to date. It was produced in collaboration with Mike Clink (Guns N' Roses, Megadeth), Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket, The Shins) and Greg Brimson (Bush).
Though
Mumiy Troll is Russia's biggest musical export, in the 1980s the Communist Party considered them as socially dangerous as

"You don't need to be able to read Cyrillic to understand this Russian band — a fluency in groovy post-punk and edgy guitar rock is all that's required," praised the New Yorker. Lead singer Ilya Lagutenko is a Russian orthodox cross between
Bryan Ferry and
David Byrne. These ten songs swing from Love and Rockets to New Order, U2 to Devo,
Eminem to Bush and back again with an instant feeling of modern pop-rock sensibility.
The standout track "Fantastica," is a gorgeous, intergalactic joyride with lush guitar. "Vladivostok Vacation" is an arty, futuristic vision of apocalyptic changes that never happened. "It's a magical trip through the emotions and hearts of the countrymen," explains Lagutenko. "We've intentionally chosen songs with a Russian character and a sprinkling of Russian words, including the album title itself—Vladivostok is our hometown. We also tried our best to fulfill the band's maximum musical potential on this album."
