New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ MyPRGenie) "Six words quickly come to mind in describing up-and-coming bassist Nik West: the girl's got it goin' on," shares Bass Musician Magazine Associate Editor Rick Suchow.
The
Phoenix funkstress has been quietly, or maybe not so quietly, creating a big buzz lately with her skillful bass chops and soulful voice. Not coincidentally, she has found her way onto the radar of a few music industry heavyweights, not the least of which is songwriter/producer and former Eurythmic Dave Stewart. Nik, who has been described by the Seattle Times as "Prince meets
Erykah Badu with a funky bass line", has been keeping company with the likes of bass honchos Rickey Minor and Gerald Veasley. In fact, Veasley was impressed so much that he invited West to teach a masterclass at his annual Bass Bootcamp, which just wrapped up in March. With a debut album In The Nik Of Time already released, and a determination to do big things, it looks like the career of West is heading due North.
For the first time, our monthly cover interview here at Bass Musician is strictly video, and it won't take you long to figure out why. Our thanks to the West team for helping us put this together, and special props to our girl Nik for that megawatt smile. Make some room folks, there's a new girl on the block.
