Lakeshore Records will release the Lola Versus - Original Score digitally on June 5, 2012 and in stores on June 12, 2012. The recording features original music by Fall On Your Sword (Nobody Walks, Another Earth).
Greta Gerwig plays Lola, a 29 year-old woman dumped by her longtime boyfriend Luke (Joel Kinnaman) just three weeks before their wedding. With the help of her close friends Henry (Hamish Linklater) and Alice (Zoe Lister-Jones), Lola embarks on a series of desperate encounters in an attempt to find her place in the world as a single woman approaching 30.
"[Director] Daryl [Wein] wanted the score to be a reflection of Lola's character and be able to exist in her world," said Will Bates and Philip Mossman of Fall On Your Sword. "So in one sense it needed to sound like something that she and her friends would listen to, but, at the same time, help to portray the emotional arc of the movie. He really encouraged us to have fun with it."
And they did have fun with it. One early decision was to add brass to the score, which gave Bates the opportunity to learn a new instrument. He described, "Rather than turning to a session player I decided to learn the flugel horn thinking, 'how hard can it really be?' Quite hard as it turns out. There are a few scenes which feature long flugel horn chords. The parping and buff notes have been thankfully edited out."
Fall On Your Sword is the multimedia composing entity founded by Will Bates and Philip Mossman. Though originally from London, Bates and Mossman met in Brooklyn where they now record and reside. The duo has gained swift recognition as a rising force in the world of feature film scoring as well as recording/performing artists and viral video mavericks. Together they have amassed over 2 million You Tube hits.
Since opening doors to their new studios in 2010, Fall On Your Sword have scored no less than seven full-length feature films, including Aardvark directed by Kitao Sakurai, Another Earth directed by Mike Cahill, The Normals directed by Kevin
Connors and Generation Um directed by Mark Mann. Sundance 2012 saw two films featuring Fall On Your Sword scores; Twenty-Eight Hotel Rooms directed by Matt Ross and Nobody Walks directed by Ry Russo-Young.
