One Direction Rekindles Beatle-Mania With Sold-Out American Tour

One Direction Rekindles Beatle-Mania With Sold-Out American Tour
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Buy Any Seat Official Website) It's Déjà vu all over again. Not since the Beatles arrived on American soil in 1964 has there been a British Invasion of this magnitude. But now, almost a half-century later, here's One Direction mania gripping America's tweens and teens like, well, the Fab Four did two generations ago.

It all started earlier this year, when the U.K. pop vocal sensations announced they'd headline their first-ever North American Tour, starting May 24, 2012 in Fairfax, Virginia, and traveling through arenas and large theaters in cities ranging from New York, Toronto and Los Angeles and many points in between.

But, due to the fact their entire May/June 2012 tour sold out in minutes, and their December 3rd show at Madison Square Garden sold out in under 10 minutes, One Direction decided to give fans another look with an additional 30 tour dates set for next summer. The good news for now, however, is that One Direction tickets for this year's sold-out tour are still available, according to Felina Martinez, manager at online ticket retailer BuyAnySeat.com.

Formed on the 2010 edition of the U.K. version of "X Factor," One Direction comprises Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. All of the group members hail from the U.K., save for Horan, who is from Ireland. The act has nabbed three top three U.K. singles and its debut album hit No. 2 in November 2011. Also, the British boys aren't exactly novices to the U.S. touring circuit, having just wrapped a 10-date trip opening for Big Time Rush.

Not only that, but One Direction recently made history as the first British group to top the Billboard 200 with a debut album, "Up All Night". The album's lead single, "What Makes You Beautiful", debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 this spring. In addition, the pop stars have captivated American audiences on multiple television appearances this year, from the 10,000 screaming fans who showed up for NBC's Today Show concert on March 12th to the millions who caught their "Saturday Night Live" gig on April 7th of this year.

"We're so proud of what we've achieved over the past two years, and that's why we wanted to put on a show that reflects that," said Harry Styles, One Direction band member. "We've worked so hard to make it brilliant and we don't just want the fans to enjoy it - we want parents and everyone else who comes along to love it too."

Teen heartthrobs' global takeover hits "Hangover" snag in Sin City.
Everything has been going swimmingly for the teen heartthrobs, but their global takeover ran into a snag recently when the boy band charmers arrived in Sin City and were reportedly tossed out of a cadre of Vegas casinos for being underage. (To their credit, the boys in the band are quite legal overseas to booze and bet as much as they want.)

Adding to the snafu was the fact that the boys were told their upscale suite was the same as the one featured in the instant-classic flick "The Hangover" - only to discover that the 2009 comedy was actually filmed at locations in Los Angeles.

"The boys were hoping to go wild in Vegas by boozing and gambling into the early hours," a source revealed to British tabloid The Sun. However, things didn't go as planned. The source continued, "But security at every casino in town knew who the lads were and threw them out because the legal drinking and gambling age in the U.S. is 21."

And duh, they supposedly weren't happy about not having the "Hangover" suite either: "Finding out the hotel suite they had ordered wasn't the one in 'The Hangover' was also pretty annoying." The basketball court in their 10,000 square foot, $25,000-per-night two-story Palms hotel suite must not have been enough, even with its own hardwood, hot-tub and pool table. One Direction will return to the scene of the crime with their final 2012 U.S. tour date in September in Las Vegas.
