NEW YORK (Geffen Records) - In the United States the album came in at No 7 on the Billboard Top 20. Some other great chart numbers include Mexico at No 1, Italy at No 2, Germany at No 3, France at No 4, Switzerland at No 5, Spain at No 5, Denmark at No 6, Argentina at No 6, United Kingdom at No 8, Belgium at No 8, Norway at No 10 and Sweden at No 10. And on the Coalition of Independent Music Stores' Top 300 for the week ending July 4th, The Cure has the No 1 spot!

The Cure is the band's 13th studio record and their first album of new music since 2000's Grammy nominated Bloodflowers. Reaction from the media includes a 4 star review in Rolling Stone which states "the new album is their most adventurous and passionate since Disintegration," while People Magazine gave the disc 3-stars and featured it as a "Critics Choice" saying "The Cure has found it's groove again." "The Cure is a stunner" hails New York Newsday and The New York Post gave the disc 3-stars, "the Cure has made a terrific collection that establishes the band's place in contemporary rock."

And internationally the media's reaction is equally as enthusiastic. "Their best album in years...this is an intimate, powerful record that demands to be played at full blast in bedrooms everywhere, both by original fans who'd like a blast of their angst ridden youth, and fledglings bought in down the Rapture route" states the Observer Music Monthly , and Uncut boasts "an invigorating and occasionally breathtaking experience. Without question, it's their best album since Disintegration; a new generation of teenagers (both real and ageing) should prepare to submit." "'Cure Genius'. A near-perfect balance between the various facets of the band's history. A masterly performance all round" raves the Guardian Friday Review and NME says of the album "Startling from the first listen." And the ever revered Kerrang says "It's impossible to over-estimate the influence The Cure have wielded over the darker, more considered end of the rock spectrum...this is utterly timeless music...the Cure are still a force to be reckoned with."

The Cure is currently overseas headlining various European Festivals. Later this month The Cure will arrive stateside to kick off the highly anticipated Curiosa Festival 2004 which kicks off July 24th in West Palm Beach, Florida and continues through the end of August. The headlining bill will include The Cure, Interpol, the Rapture and Mogwai. A second stage will also be part of the festivities showcasing the talent of Muse, Thursday, Cursive, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Cooper Temple Clause, Head Automatica and Scarling. Second stage performers will vary per market throughout the tour; log on to www.thecure.com/events for tour dates and to see which bands will be performing on each date.

Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, the Cure line-up since 1994 comprises longtime bass player Simon Gallup, guitarist Perry Bamonte, drummer/percussionist Jason Cooper, and keyboardist Roger O'Donnell. The Cure first formed in southern England in 1976 as Easy Cure. In 1978 the 'Easy' was dropped, and The Cure was signed to the Fiction label. In May 1979 their debut album Three Imaginary Boys was released to great acclaim.

Other landmark Cure albums include Pornography (1982), The Head on the Door (1985), Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987), Disintegration (1989), Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996) and Bloodflowers (2000).
