The 15 track project is currently available for download. The mixtape features appearances from Rori, Phillie Jay, Lafrance, and Tekksaviek as well as production from Chaz Bell and Lafrance.
Grizzy James is a rapper originally from Englewood, IL whose mother moved his family to Long Beach, CA to escape the dangerous streets of the Chicago neighborhood. Discovering poetry from reading "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Author Shel Silverstein, Grizzy Jay was intrigued by the witty wordplay. Using his understanding of poetry Grizzy started to see how the coming together of words combined with his love for music drove his interest in freestyling. By age 14, Grizzy had found his own style and claimed the title "rapper" as part of his identity. Writing lyrics at school to pass the time and analyzing his rhymes at home, Grizzy fine tuned his message and articulated his delivery knowing that after he got through school he would work hard to turn his hobby into a thriving music career.
Grizzy James's recently released debut mixtape, "Sleep Walking", is the product of this young artist's passion and perseverance. Two years in the making, "Sleep Walking" was completed after Grizzy faced many obstacles from relatives passing away to running his budget dry in the middle of production. Much needed help from a partnership with the Hip Hop collective known as DCT or " Dreams Come True", consisting of long time friends Rori, Phillie Jay, Lafrance, and his older brother Tekksaviek, pushed Grizzy to overcome adversity, focus his message, and complete the long awaited mixtape.
