Music Project (GMP), the launch pad for emerging, independent artists, revealed its second artist, Columbus, Ohio based singer-songwriter Joey Hendrickson, and his track, "Astral Planes." The announcement coincides with the release of the second episode of the GMP • The Session Diaries web series, a behind-the-scenes look at the recording process of Hendrickson's session at GMP's Star Hill Studio in
Santa Barbara, Calif.
The Session Diaries affords music fans an insider's opportunity to see the evolution of a breakout new song and the artistic collaborations that bring the song to life. It provides an exclusive window into Hendrickson's creative process and the musical journey Hendrickson and the GMP team undertook to create "Astral Planes."
In a sign of the times, the inspiration for "Astral Planes" came from a text Hendrickson received from a friend. He captured the song on his iPhone and submitted it to GMP. Under the guidance of GMP founder
Christopher Tyng and his team, the song blossoms through the addition of a live string section and a variety of instruments, including mandolin and pedal steel guitar. The performances create an added layer of depth to the track. The result is a finished single that is both intimate and lush, without losing the emotional rawness found in Hendrickson's original demo.
"It's incredibly rewarding to hear what these artists accomplish during their GMP sessions," says Tyng. "Joey's soulful voice and emotional lyrics should make scores of people fall in love with him, and provide the soundtrack for at least as many relationships coming together and falling apart - both real and scripted on movie and television screens everywhere."
"Recording at Star Hill Studio for the Grow
Music Project was one of the most head-spinning, extraordinary experiences I've ever had," says Hendrickson. "I went back to Columbus, inspired to accomplish things I never imagined I could."
