Film Premiere & GRAMMY Salutes to Sharon Isbin
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) See the New York City premiere screening of SHARON ISBIN: TROUBADOUR Thursday April 10 at 6pm, Bruno Walter Auditorium Film Series at Lincoln Center (111 Amsterdam Ave., bet. West 64th-65th St). Free admission. Q&A with Sharon Isbin and producer Susan Dangel immediately follows the film. For information, see: https://lc.lincolncenter.org/shows/209517

This 1-hour documentary portrait produced by Susan Dangel for PBS of the world's premier classical guitarist shows us a trailblazing performer and teacher who over the course of her career has broken through numerous barriers to rise to the top of a traditionally male-dominated field. The film explores what it takes to nurture a dream against all odds to become a world class musician.

Performances are showcased from international concert stages to the GRAMMYs and the White House; guests include Joan Baez, Martina Navratilova, Garrison Keillor, David Hyde Pierce; rock legends Steve Vai, Janis Ian, Leslie Gore; composers Tan Dun, John Corigliano, Christopher Rouse, Joan Tower; jazz greats Stanley Jordan, Paul Winter, fiddler Mark O'Connor; and many others.

The documentary premiered as the Official Selection of the Mpls-St. Paul International Film Festival:

"A loving, thoughtful and richly photographed documentary portrait of the world's most eminent classical guitarist. Isbin's story is an inspiration - from her ascent to the peak of the male-dominated field of classical guitar to her tireless championing of new works for guitar and quest for new musical worlds to conquer. Don't miss it." Michael Anthony, critic, Star Tribune (Minneapolis)

"Sharon Isbin: Troubadour goes far beyond the expectations of an artist-portrait documentary. The result is a look inside a life as rich, dazzling, & engaging as the subject's acclaimed artistry, a highly entertaining portrayal of a seemingly unlikely life's journey."
Steve Hochman (music journalist, Los Angeles Times, KPCC, Grammy.com)

GRAMMY HALL OF FAME INSPIRATIONS

"There aren't many artists whose musical dots connect Elvis Presley, Andrés Segovia and astronaut Chris Hadfield. But those are key points highlighted as Sharon Isbin draws the rather complex, colorful picture of her wide-ranging musical accomplishments and the evolution of her tastes and sensibilities, not to mention astonishing skills behind them."
