LOS ANGELES (www.dtguitar.com) - Guitarist Denis Taaffe, who uses regular guitar and guitar loops done on the fly to create elaborate instrumental compositions has recently released his 49th album,
Modern Rock Guitar Vol.49 'Moving On' which his 34th album of 2006. Denis goal is to complete and release 50 full length albums of original material in 2006, without rushing it....
Denis may just reach his goal as his approach to guitar, music and recording may make this possible. Denis creates loops as he plays and emulates other instruments on guitar such as bass, wind, horn and other instruments without the use of midi guitar. All his compositons are improvised on the spot and performed live. He uses the same approach for tracks on his albums.
He records live without overdubs on to 4 tracks which arethen mixed to 2 tracks left/right stereo. Though you would swear that his compositions are worked out ahead of time as they have structure, are melodic and change and evolve.
"Well, for me, I really like the sound of improvised music and enjoy recording albums. One reason for this, is that when I am playing live, I am concentrating so much while playing and improvising, that I don't get to enjoy the music as a listener. So with recordings I get to hear it later as a lsitener. Also, all my material is improvised on the spot, so If I don;t record it, it is gone forever as I can't play it the same way ever again. I can create a similar version. so by recording I get to capture that improvisation. I really have worked for the lat few years to get my improvisations to sounds like worked out melodic songs/compositons. Sometimes it works out really well, sometimes it's like pulling teeth, but when I hear back the results, it makes this approach all worthwhile to me." Denis stated.
Denis wants to complete and release 50 albums this year!! With this release, he is one stpe closer to his goal as he has completed 34 albums thus far. "Well, for me, I enjoy putting out albums and creating new material,it is almost as if I have a need to create compositions. also, It is very exciting when I complete and album and common themes emerge form the tracks. though I am averaging about an album a week, I do not try to rush it at all and in fact until the song order and tracks sound 'right', I won't put the album out." Denis mentions.
