New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - World-class recording artist Gary Lucas - hailed by Rolling Stone critic David Fricke as "one of the best and most original guitarists in America" - played guitar in Captain Beefheart's Magic Band for five years. He has also worked with Lou Reed, Nick Cave, John Cale and Jeff Buckley. On his own, the "legendary leftfield guitarist" (Guardian U.K.) has toured the world and developed his virtuosic style over the course of 20 critically praised solo albums.

On March 16, Knitting Factory Records will release Lucas' first recorded collaboration with the internationally renowned, New York-based jazz/blues singer Dean Bowman, 'Chase The Devil.'

Formed from the duo's mutual love of spiritual roots music, 'Chase The Devil' is a twelve-song set of guitar and vocal duos derived from various canons. The album features two originals by Lucas and Bowman, alongside traditional numbers like "God is a Good God" and "In Christ There Is No East Or West." Lucas and Bowman even take on the Jewish folk tune "Hinay Ma Tov."

The New York Times dubbed Lucas "the guitarist of 1000 ideas," and he had plenty of new ones to enrich 'Chase The Devil' with. His chords shine with twang and unusual stresses, while his leads bristle with psychedelic sinew. Bowman's moving voice packs the physical wallop of the great blues shouters and yields remarkable range. Behind each song's soulful sonic force, there's near-infinite variety, nuance and wit.

Lucas has long been a scholar of blues, rock, space-jazz, traditional Jewish music and more. He has performed in more than 40 countries, and shared a Grammy nomination with Joan Osborne for co-writing "Spider Web" from her triple-platinum album 'Relish.'
This spring, Gary Lucas will play various solo shows. Stay tuned for details.
