Las Vegas, NV. (Top40 Charts/ Latin GRAMMY Awards) - Berklee College of Music alumni and faculty were nominated for a total of 18 Latin GRAMMY Awards in a variety of categories, representing the wide diversity of Latin music emanating from Berklee. Merengue superstar Juan Luis Guerra '82 leads the nominations this year with a total of five nods. Guerra was nominated in categories including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. The 8th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be held on Thursday, November 8, at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.

Berklee alumni Gustavo Celis '94 and Tommy Torres '93 were also nominated for multiple Latin Grammy Awards: Celis for his work engineering/mixing releases by Beyonce & Shakira, Miguel Bose, and Alejandro Sanz; and Torres for his work with Ricky Martin.

As members of the Paquito D'Rivera Quintet, alumni Diego Urcola '90, Pernell Saturnino '95, and Alon Yavnai '95, and faculty members Oscar Stagnaro and Mark Walker were nominated in the category Best Latin Jazz Album.

Also nominated for awards were Benny Faccone '78, for Producer of the Year; John Weston '88, for engineering/mixing Beyonce & Shakira; and Alvaro Alencar '93, for engineering Acoustico MTV.
