Dr. John, dubbed New Orleans' "Greatest Living Musical Ambassador" by NPR, performed "Down in New Orleans" which received an Academy Award nomination today for Music (Original Song) alongside Newman written "Almost There" (both found on the Walt Disney Records original motion picture soundtrack) and a separate nomination for the film for Animated Feature Film.

Six-time Grammy winner Dr. John is one of his hometown's "foremost voices" (Billboard). His 2008 album 'The City That Care Forgot,' winner of the 2008 Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album, is, said USA Today, "an album that demands attention." Dr. John most recently performed on the Grammy Awards telecast in 2006.

Dr. John's next album, tentatively titled 'Tribal,' will be released in April by 429 Records. The album was recorded in New Orleans and features songs by legendary New Orleanians Allen Toussaint and Bobby Charles, as well as Dr. John originals.
